This Week in Ads

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSLoTJySZmg

This ad was one that most shocked me this week. This video used clips from both Meg Whitman and Arnold Schwarzeneggar speeches to point out why Meg Whitman would not be a good candidate for governor. She is too similar to Governor Schwarzeneggar. This ad appeals to voters logic because why vote for someone who would be just like him.

This ad is probably one of the most influential ads I saw on television. The ad really catches your attention because it shows the current governor and the potential governor. This ad sends the message that Meg Whitman will be the same kind of governor that Schwarzeneggar is. It was a simply made ad that could influence swing voters significantly.

Jerry Brown Today

For this week's blog, I am going to take the opportunity to describe my experience of attending Jerry Brown and Gavin Nascom's rally at the Event Center today.

Most of the advertisements Jerry Brown pays for on television put down Meg Whitman. Jerry Brown's ads point out how Meg Whitman has not voted in the last how many elections, etc. I find it interesting that at his rally he emphasized why Meg Whitman should not be governor and not why he should be.

In comparison, Nascom pointed out his accomplishments in San Francisco to emphasize why he should be lieutenant governor.

Both men have been using advertising on television and in print to garner support.

The link here is a print ad by Jerry Brown.

The poster uses crisp colors and fonts. It is appealing and legible which is key in making any sign or poster. To quote the poster "Let's get California working again." With working underlined in red, emphasizes that Brown expects to change California for the better.

During and at the end of the rally those who attended received large posters in support of Nascom and Brown. This was yet another way they gained support by providing means for others to show their support.

This Week's Meg Whitman Ad!

I have seen this ad a lot on television, especially when I watch the morning news.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aNvAt-qiVw

Meg Whitman uses this ad to play up what she did in the Silicon Valley at Ebay. Images of her success at Ebay are shown. Magazine covers and maps give the ad visually appealing images that grab attention and keep it.

The ad focuses on showing voters that she helped make Ebay an amazing company with its 15,000 employees and that she shall do the same for California as governor of California.

In comparison to Jerry Brown, I have seen fewer ads from Meg Whitman attacking Jerry Brown. Meg Whitman has done a better job conveying her message to audiences because she uses her ads to play up her accomplishments. But she too attacks her opponent through ads.

Meg Whitman has spent a larger amount of money on these ads so I believe she has been getting more attention from viewers. Which is probably why her ads get more attention.

Meg Whitman for Governor

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBbQB0YMNZo

The above is a link to a video Meg Whitman posted on youtube. One of the many advertisements Meg Whitman has in support of her campaign for governor.

The candidate uses influential people to endorse her campaign. Using them to describe how strong of a candidate she is. The people look directly into the camera listing Meg Whitman's best qualities and her resume. It is pretty effective in convincing viewers that she is the best candidate for governor because of her experience and personal attributes. This particular video praises Meg Whitman rather than putting down her opponent Jerry Brown.

In comparison, Jerry Brown has more ads that put down Meg Whitman. I think that Meg Whitman has been falling behind because Jerry Brown's message has been heard more loud and clear.
